I sent my neighbor a satellite photo (Terraserver) of himself mowing his yard. He almost flipped out worrying about big brother. It was a USGS photo used for earthquake research but still scary to some people. Technology has its benefits and distractions.

r_moody,
What version of Terraserver do you have? I could never get that close with out it being blurry.

I don't think there are different versions of Terraserver. What matters is which satellite took the picture and when. The Landsat pictures taken in 2002 and 2004 are of a much higher quality. I happen to live in an area where the latest pictures are very sharp. Landsat did not take pictures of the whole country in 2002-04. The last complete scan was in 97 or 98 from satellites that are floating junk by now. If they are ever going to scan everything, I can’t say. It is run and, paid for, by the US Geological Service. Try Google Earth. They are computer enhanced 3D pics of Landsat photos.

Google earth will
run on a ****** as long as it meets the minimum requirements. I run it on my ****** (it is fairly new).

The requirements are as follows:
The Google Earth client requires certain system configurations in order to run smoothly.
Minimum configuration:

  • Operating system: Windows 2000, Windows XP
  • CPU speed: Intel® Pentium® PIII 500 MHz
  • System memory (RAM): 128MB
  • 200MB hard-disk space
  • 3D graphics card: 3D-capable video card with 16MB VRAM
  • 1024x768, 32-bit true color screen
  • Network speed: 128 kbps ("Broadband/Cable Internet")
Recommended configuration:
  • Operating system: Windows XP
  • CPU speed: Intel® Pentium® P4 2.4GHz+ or AMD 2400xp+
  • System memory (RAM): *****
  • 2GB hard-disk space
  • 3D graphics card: 3D-capable video card with 32MB VRAM or greater
  • 1280x1024, 32-bit true color screen
  • Network speed: 768 kbps
I run it on a Compaq ****** with a AMD Athlon 64. All you can do is try it on yours and see what happens. I still prefer Terraserver because it is quicker and not platform specific. I prefer to use my Mac ********* over my Compaq. Windows XP doesn't like me.
