Pvt. Gauss and Larry,

According to a book I own, Gen. Forrest was 1" taller than me. That would make Lt. Gen. N.B. Forrest, 6'2".

source: "First With The Most" Forrest, by R.S. Henry.
"There was six-feet two of him, lithe and powerful of build, with steady eyes of deep grey-blue set wide in a lean, high cheeked, swarthy face crowned with thick, wavy, iron-gray hair and set off with a short black chin beard--altogether a man of striking and commanding presence."

Best Regards,
Rob Adams

That is singularly the most useless and funny thing I've ever read at this board. My jaws ache from laughing.

Agreed, Gary and Admiral, genuinely funny and off-topic.

Bragg, in his war-time photos, was nowhere close to handsome. Nor was his demeanor. From what I see and have read, he looked like a junk-yard dog and acted like one -- unibrow notwithstanding.

Rob, we all sag as we get older. There are some folks in Memphis still intent on digging the General up again. Perhaps we can measure then?

Hi Larry!

Yes, sir, I've certainly 'sagged' in height and lost weight to boot. lol! :-)

Larry, you're not speaking of the "other side" wishing to dig-up Gen. Forrest, are you?...the ones who wish to discredit our Southern Cavalry genious?? ;-)

The 6' 2" height measurement of Gen. Forrest might have been done in his stocking feet? 74" was very tall in the 1860's, with the average being around 5'7," or 67".

Yours,
Rob

I'll bet if his revolvers or sword were aimed your way, he would have appeared even taller. It's his Mom, I would have wanted to avoid. Some of the other side are the ones I'm worried about. Last I heard we should all be on the same side? As for messing with the general from whatever side, I'm agin it.

Larry, Exactly! I'm with you Pard on being on one side and against bashing Gen. Forrest! Larry, some folks will never leave things alone, or so it seems. I speak of Gen. Forrest's legal pre-war businesses, military record and post war actions. He passed Union Gov't scrutiny and should be viewed with all this to mind.

Old Abel Streight's saber still resides in the Ala. Archives. I've seen it several times. This was one brilliant piece of cavalry work by Forrest & his men, across N. Ala.!

Yours,
Rob
