In memory of John W. Putman Co. B 30th Alabama Infantry &
Larkin J. Craft Co. D 40th Georgia Infantry who were surrendered on this date in 1863 in Vicksburg Mississippi.

My great grandfather , Garrett Gowan was also 'surrendered' on this date in 1863 .
He was one of 40 men of the 15th Mississippi Inf. Reg. to be trapped in Vicksburg after their big fight at Champion Hill . They lost their CO , General Tilghman , late in the day and in the chaos that followed must have joined columns of Pemberton forces , rather than slipping away with Loring back to Jackson. Of these 40 of the 15th MS , 22 were listed as hospitalized and another 18 were termed as 'Field' GG was of the Field group.
What days they must have been.....
