I think he wsa referring to the point that it was an "american sin" as opposed to a "southern sin"

The term "coolie" was applied to any immigrant from China, not just those who were forced to emigrate from East Asia.

From the link:

"Nevertheless, the term "coolie" came to be applied broadly in the United States to label most Chinese immigrant laborers. Despite a lack of rights, these early Chinese immigrants were not coolies. They were voluntary immigrants who made their own arrangements and paid their own passage. At most, some borrowed money under the "ticket system" at high rates of interest. The "coolie" stereotype would be fixed in the American imagination and used by nativists seeking to stop the immigration of what was seen as an unassimilable rival labor source."

As, according to OIJ and Battalion, the Chinese were treated so poorly (and apparently, only by those in the North); I wonder how many Chinese fought for the Confederate army?

Default California

Outside of Fremont and the two Senators California was worth, do events in California really matter for purposes of analyzing the Civil War in the East?

US... meaing you or meaning white? Either is ignorant beyond belief. Here is a hint; read the bible: Christ was Jew, that means he wasn't blond haired & blue eyed... unless daddy was a Roman soldier... which, as a firm believer, I doubt.

Is Halle Berry or Vivacia Fox ugly or unworthy simply because they're black? Now why pray tell is white better than black? Is a white child somehow better than a black or Asian one? Racial purity... the last people I can think of who preached that were... sick beyong belief. Better men than you or I crushed that particular govt... and thank God for it.

All one has to do is look to history to know the idea of racial purity is pure arrogant ignorance. God made the black man, Asian, Native American, White etc... all have free will and all were given free choice. Only a fool looks at someone one way or another simply because of the color of their skin. Real men look at PEOPLE by the strength of their personality. People fear what is different... their loss not mine. A better man than you or I once said you can't hold a man down w/out staying down w/ him.

Forgive me for being brutally blunt; but that is the way I am... "subtle as an artillery barrage" my father once said.

BTW my daughter is white, black, Asian, Native American and God only knows what else was in the wood pile back in the day; do you know what that makes her? An American. If that bothers you... cry me a river. She is a very beautiful & intelligent little girl. What makes the US different is that she has a chance to make whatever she wants of herself... the sky is the limit.

Knowing what I know of the CS... she never would have had that chance and neither would her mother, grand mother, great grand mother and as her great grand mothers grand mother was a slave... her life would not be her own... it wouldn't be worth a plug nickel.

Some of the finest men I have ever met wore the gray (reenactors & living historians) and in fact have set my standards a bit high in the Living History world... God Bless the old 4th Alabama... as I understand it they disbamnded back in the mid 90's. They interpetted what they knew of life in the 1860's and were brutally honest even when they knew it might make them look bad. History... PS, if you're nice the wife might give you some bear sign. But beware... she favors her deadly ninja throwing skillet... and Colt revolving shotgun.
Hows that impression of a southern gentleman? I have met one who I think was Gods gift to the US... a good man in Charleston SC, a grad of the Citadel and 25+ year vet of the USAF... a good man, good soldier and bloody good American. Can't ask for much more than that.
Your mother raised you well! Actually blame my father, my mother is an absolute nutter, still love the woman though... she is my mom.
Chadutes..................
Racist diatribe gets under my skin, I've served beside real men and women of pretty much every race and culture who were willing to fight and die for this nation so that people like Battalion & OIJ could say whatever they wished... I have little patience for those who believe someone might be less simply because of the color of their skin.

God made us all, he will judge us all on an individual bassis... not by the color of our skin.
