Yes, 262 charged: 56 KIA, 19 mortally wounded & later died, 140 wounded 47 unscathed.

Those still standing along w/ the companies that had been on skirmish duty along w/ one Comapny of the 1st USSS (a MN Co) that had been permenantly attached all were in NYC and less than impressed w/ the rioters motives.

Lincoln on Mayor Wood's idea of declaring New York as a 'Free City.'

I find the title of this thread just a bit misleading and inaccurate. New York did not want to be part of the Confederacy and made no serious attempt at secession. Seems like another non-issue of furious contention or, as the playwright said, "much ado about nothing."

Yep, thats whay I tried to explain in the second post. It appears that he may have wanted New York City to become a free city. Indenpendant of both sides. I cant see it becoming a part of the Confederacy
