How many citizens of the State of Vermont are calling for secession, as of this moment? 100? 200? 300?
Should a minority, a very small minority, have their wish granted and the rest of the citizens wishes be ignored or not considered?

Over at "Mode for Caleb" Prof. Caleb McDaniel has an interesting essay on the abolitionists use of at least the rhetoric of secession as a way to deal with slavery. He argues they were influenced by the Irish nationalist revivial going on at the same time(1830s).
