If I might make a suggestion to all, if you see something as an insult take a couple of minutes and PM the individual letting them know that you see Post X as insulting w/ a request for clarification. If you want to CYA then CC one of the Mods. I'll wager that more often than not there was no insult intended and the issue can be resolved w/out dragging the entire board into it. THe PM system is there to be used, and I think it would solve a lot of issues to just use it to talk w/ someone instead of at them.

Shane,
I didn't take offense to anything but was trying to come up with a plan which might prevent these type things from happening again. That's why I was asking the questions to Ole & Ad___Porter. I'm listening and taking notes on what word's offend, etc., in order to avoid them in the future.

I really detest confrontations, believe it or not. And I have a plan to prevent my ever getting involved in one again.

I see sometime that the words written and the actual intent of the writer, are unintentionally misinterpreted. I'm learning to set back, read the post with care and then post as though the words were not meant to offend. If the reply was indeed inflammatory, I propose to not respond in like fashion. This way, the inflammatory person will have nobody to argue with. I've been studying what happened yesterday and really wish to avoid this type discourse which serves no purpose.

Does anyone else have words or phrases that are not taken well? Please post them if you do.

Sincerely,
Alabaman

No more "dog and postman" stories, I promise. I suppose that was the last straw!

Garrett:

Charming idea. You know, in all my years on this planet I've never heard carolers? Maybe it's because the northern midwest is not built for wandering around outside and singing, But now the pipes are gone.

Is there any carolling in Texas?

Ole,

If you want to be warm this winter, come to San Antonio, its 75 degrees today and we are preparing for New Years celebrations (making a lot of tamales).

Related to this thread: I agree that while debate is good, Mike and Ami run this little corner of the WBTS world. Their forum, their rules. They are the operational commanders here. My Enfield is stacked when I come to the campfire and trade words with both Yankees and Rebels.

Default Yes, Indeedy.

FS.

Totally agree. We are guests on this forum. We use it. We enjoy it. But we are still guests.

It has opened for me a vast world of study (which involves debate, research, conversation, disagreement, opinion, and resolution). Without this, I'd have the local CWRT and Mobile 96. With this, I am exposed to many, many, well-read, eloquent proponents of all kinds of angles with learning far beyond what I could hope to acquire in the next 30 years. Accelerated pleasure.

However, without this forum, I'd have 100 fewer books I need to read, and I could be clearing the basement and garage and making repairs. You pays your money and you takes your chances.
