Civil War History - Secession and PoliticsWas it Slavery, or was it States Rights? Perhaps it was the election of Lincoln? What were the real reasons for Southern Secession and what were the political issues in this time of war? Find your answers here in the Secession and Politics Disussion.
Case closed. Although I disagree with the closing, it was not my thread, it is not my board, and it is not my decision.
I second that.
However, I must (wo)manfully stand up and confess that only a few minutes ago I sent a complaint to "Contact us" at the bottom of the main page. I asked to have the so far 4 in number posts of "new member" rachmane obliterated and this member removed.
Which words do you refer that flame others up? I subscribe to the reasoning to bring matters out into the open, listing them and addressing how they cause problems. We don't know how to help if you don't let us know which ones (words) offend?
Would you elaborate, sir, to what words you find inflammatory?
Who are you referring to when you made the comment on "whining' by some? I don't see anybody whining on this board, myself; pro-north or pro-south. Don't mention something and then guard it like a well kept fishing hole. :-) Come on dude, fess up and lets get this crap behind us. There are battles to discuss and politicians to cuss.
I don't mean to put anyone on the spot but since Alabaman asked for examples:
"I suspected that Sherman and Sheridan might have raised up an army that was driven by revenge and vigilantism."
"In most contexts you are the torch-bearers of liberty; but in your own backyard you are perfectly prepared to be ruthless advocates of coercion."
"Yes, His Satanic Majesty, John C. Calhoun."
Now how do these statements do anything except inflame others? It adds nothing worthwhile to the discussion.
Another example is when a fellow board member was accused of being a pot head because he thinks Lee is overrated. Some just can not handle an opinion different from their own.
If you want to see what happens to a message board when the people participating can't hold their tongue I suggest visiting the History Channel ACW forum.

"Whining" is now officially withdrawn in favor of the more benign "crying in one's beer."

You closed the thread. Get over it. Time marches on. Let's see if I've used up all the cliches yet.

My computer allows me to do something else. I've yet to find why yours does not. Civilwartalk.com does not come up automatically on my screen. I have to select it. I am not required to do so. When it is a source of irritation, I am free to ignore it. The sun does not rise and set over my skinny butt. My existence is a matter of importance only to me. Can we, just for a while, get real?
Very well put ole.
If people get so aggrivated over a message board then why bother coming here? This shouldn't be a place to get stressed out.
Thank you Admiral, from you, that's important.
