No, it wouldn't. Prescott Bush's contacts with Germany were before the US entry into WW2. In order to be a traitor you have to either levy war against the United States or give aid and comfort to an enemy of the United States. Before December of 1941, Germany was not an enemy of the United States.

Apparently Ashley likes to continue to indulge in personal attacks. I now await the inevitable charges against the pro-Unionists for being rude while Ashley's insults are ignored yet again.

Cash

Hi Ashley,

Nah. That wasn't a dig by you. Everybody has heard of Ape Lincoln in the history books. Even an old unlearned southerner as myself has heard of Abraham Lincoln called Ape Lincoln. Also, I've read where black people called him Ape Lin***. It's all relative to history and not meant as a dig.

I've read of soldiers calling him Old Ape Lin***, before. That's what I call being too sensitive by people, when they are hurt by reading such. I don't think there are 'family' members of Lincoln present to be offended, anyway.

Good Post, Pard!

Respectfully,
Rob Adams

As has been demonstrated, even if it has been used historically it is still verboten.

There's that aroma again.

Cash,
I think that you & I could work this perceived "personal attack" matter out if I could PM you. Your PM 'machine' is not in service, because I tried. Mine just began working recently.

Cash, allow me to email you and you'll see that we're not personally attacking you. Apparently we southern men and our humour is taken wrong as we don't intend it to be hurtfull. I think it's the way we see you answer in short quirt-like answers. You admitted you did this for a reason. Hey, that's OK. But, Ashley and I also have our style of writing which you see as insulting. Let's work it out.

Nobody is out to belittle you Cash. Check out my post to you on the "Slavery, the cause thread. You'll see.

Sncerely,
Rob Adams

Actually, McClellan picked up that nasty reference from none other than Edwin Stanton, who would later be the victim of similar derision from Mac.

Apparently Mac had a superior attitude toward just about anyone he had to work with.

"The good of the country requires me to submit to all this from men whom I know to be greatly my inferiors socially, intellectually & morally!" -from a letter to his wife

Fortunately Mr. Lincoln had the strength of character not to let these types of personal attacks and insults bother him. He had more weighty issues to deal with.

I'll stand by my comment that a gentleman from Mobile, Alabama would not stoop to such a characterization.

So far we have had John C. Calhoun refered to as Satan, Lincoln as ape and, and John Brown as Osama bin Ladin(on another thread). It's good to see that we are being so carefully modulated and understated.

As far as personal attacks are concerned, I can assure you that while I deserve anything anyone wants to post(because I've been bad, very bad), the rest of the posters are intelligent and courteous ladies and gentlemen with delicate sensibilities and good manners, so let's all shape up.

Oh, the hilarity. Yeah, that's not belittling in the slightest, is it? How could anyone ever perceive that as an insult? It's just a little humor to lighten up the day, right?

Spare me, please.

Cash

Cash, Alabaman, Mobileboy... play nice. I've kept my nose out of this thread but have enjoyed reading it. There have been some interesting points and counterpoints made and some rather interesting insults tossed back and forth. Most of us are here to learn about the Civil War, not toss insults; there are other websites for that.

Please don't force Ami to shut down another thread.

IF YOU HAVE A COMPLAINT USE THE ! IN THE UPPER RIGHT HAND SIDE OF THE POST. IT IS SIMPLE AND THERE IS NO EXCUSE NOT TO. MODS DON'T READ EVERY SINGLE POST; HELP THEM TO KEEP THIS A FRIENDLY PLACE.

My dear CWT Member, Cash.

If you will kindly listen, I can explain.

Check the time I posted and the time Ashley's post came in. They should be very cose in proximity in time. Hence, I didn't even see the post you accuse me of supporting because it was posted as I was writing. The evidence is there. I heard the incoming mail 'ding' as Ashley's reply or someone's reply? as it was posted. Therefore, I couldn't have known Ashley had replied, much less read it??

We Southerners have a way of talking which can be perceived in the wrong manner than it's intended. You have a way of being quick and snappy in your talk. These two types collide, because I've seen it before. A person from Alabama would believe your speech tye as 'smart alek.' You see our talk as "personal attack." "Yankee" talk is perceived as short, quirt and belittling. This causes MOST of the problem but not ALL. Perhaps we need to take this to a 'general discussion" area and work out our perceptions of each region's speech 'styles.' I worked in a Medical environment & recognize many different types of speech styles from ALL sorts of people. Believe you me, I've heard it all!

I reiterate, Cash, that you and I can work this out as men. Let me know if you are willing? I'll be glad to settle this dispute if you'll allow me to get to you??

Yours Respectfully,
Rob Adams
