Default Poor Ole.

[quote=unionblue]samgrant,

Have pity on our old friend Ole.

I get the impression that he prays to the Computer God, sacrifices a chicken and sprinkles it's blood on the CPU, hoping against hope for a quicker download!

At least, that's what I do.

Shame on you UB.

SpiritofPicket,

Sorry, my friend across the pond, but all computers, keyboards, programs, etc. and their works are simply modern-day terms for mystical, magical events and insturments of the devil.

I have found a computer must be appeased, not programed, prayed to and not diagnosed by running a spam blocker.

They are evil creations that demand worship by those of us too ignorant to understand their hidden agenda and sinister goals that they seem to have in store for us mere mortals.

See you at the chicken coop.

Yours in technical ignorance,
Unionblue

Not a thing, the telegraph was our first truly digital information transmission system.

Maybe Ole will have a leg-up when all analog TVs will go dark in February of 2009. I'll be hosed while Ole will be tapping away dots and dashes to receive 'American Idol'.

Quit pickin' on me! I refuse cable: satellite transmission is way to costly, and the DSL telephone lines haven't gotten here yet. So I'm on a two-year old CPU with a 56kb modem limited by existing traffic. Every hour I'm on line means an hour when no one can reach us by phone -- and that is about half of the waking day.

Ain't no dang way I'm gonna commit to an hour download, nevermind three. (Old habit -- never leave the house with anything running or "on.")

Wish I could read Morse code; that might have been interesting. By the way, "American Idol"? What is that? A new religion? Want to fill me in?

Ole

Are analog tvs going dark in February '09? Are mine analogs? Better start budgeting for some surge in required purchases?

Pish, tosh, Spirit. When I can't figure it out -- which is frequently, I ask Dear One. If she can't solve it -- which is frequently -- I just call my oldest boy (I have only one, but oldest sounds impressive) and he fixes everything in a flash. The flash is accomplished so quickly that I end up with no idea what he did. He told me what he did but I didn't follow. So long as it serves my needs, I don't much care. Lost the thread and gave up caring about it somewhere in the 90s. It works up to my capacity and I guess that's gonna hafta do it.

Do you have any chickens you can spare?
