Civil War History - Secession and PoliticsWas it Slavery, or was it States Rights? Perhaps it was the election of Lincoln? What were the real reasons for Southern Secession and what were the political issues in this time of war? Find your answers here in the Secession and Politics Disussion.
Since South Carolina was the state that Sherman's army chose to inflict retributive punishment upon, I thought my thread was appropriately named. Are you suggesting that most of the destruction in the South was not caused by Federal soldiers?
And I have posted other photographs of the ruins in Richmond, so I'm curious to know why you seem to take exception to this particular photo?
Dawna
Dawna,
I didn't take exception at all to your posting of a picture of Richmond. I was just pointing out the destruction was done by retreating confederates, and not by Union soldiers. Of course, as you know, Richmond is in Virginia, not South Carolina.
And in Columbia, South Carolina, the majority of the destruction can be traced to confederates as well.
Dear Ole,
I assume Cash. He tends to be so "thorough" in his replies to other posts, hence the thousand words. The pix are Dawna's of ruined Southern cities.
Dear Samgrant,
I read Grimsley's website. I liked it a lot.
And as there was no outrage at Ashley's threat of physical violence to me, then I can only conclude the feigned outrage at my posting has nothing to do with what I said and everything to do with my effectiveness at showing how actual history works against the confederate position.
In light of all this, perhaps mr. X might modify his approach, as not to be ostracized by the community; or not.
If the "outrage" were not so blatantly one-sided I would have considered it to have been a genuine effort and would have treated it with respect. However, due to its blatant one-sidedness I don't feel it deserves any consideration. I do, however, respect the poster and I hope that in the future, if she is serious, that she will show a nonpartisan concern, especially in light of a threat of physical violence made to me by someone who is an almost constant source of insults yet has not received one word of disapprobation from her.
All these X's and Y's keep getting thrown around and someone is gonna get pregnant. It's a chromosome train wreck just waiting to happen.
Sooner or later I'm sure someone will hunt me down and slap me for a comment like this in the middle of one of these threads.

I'm personally very glad that we have such personable, charming, and genuinely funny ladies as members.
Thanks.

Found an interesting segment of a song called, The Hard Hand of War, by Eyes of Pandora. Go to the website below and then check out the box on the left hand side of the page and click on #8. Hard Hand of War to listen to the segment.

Thank you for the site with the book review. It does tie things together rather neatly, don't you think?
Dawna, with all the information provided by Prof. Grimsley's views on how basically Northern soldiers pretty much held their destruction in check and that no recorded murders or other violent acts took place during the march to the sea, would this modify in any way your view of that army's later actions in South Carolina?
Sincerely,
Unionblue
