Default Jenkins and Stuart, What was Lee up to?

I have a question. On July 1st, Gen. Lee gave order to Albert Jenkins to position his cavalry to the back and left of Ewell. He was hit by artillery fire and his staff did not complete his mission his cavalry unit was original sent on by Gen. Lee.

On July 3rd, Gen. Stuart was sent in the same direction and same place Jenkins was going before he was fallen by artillery fire. What was Gen. Lee looking for on the far left of his army?

Gen Lee sent two cavalry units in the same direction two days in a row. He must have been looking looking for something on the union right. BUT WHAT???

Maybe someone on our board has a clue to what Lee was up to with Jenkins and Stuart's cavalry....

Two different missions, Day 1, Jenkins was guarding the flank of Ewell's corps as it pulled back to the Cashtown area to concentrate with the rest of Lee's Army. No reason to attack anyone, if they did not interfere with Ewell's movements.
On Day 3, Jenkins was part of Stuarts cavalry force to guard Ewell's flank, around Culp's Hill and support Pickett's attack if it managed to break the Union line.

Opn,

Jenkins was order personality by Lee to cover Ewell flank but he never achieve due to injury... Then next day send Stuart over to the same area and he gets in a little tiff with Custer.

I have read some OR's about Gettysburg but none I have read address Jenkins role on Day2 and Stuarts role on Day3.

Jenkins men could have cover the flank even with Jenkins out of action.. so why then send Stuart. Whatever Stuart did on Day3 was half hearted at best...

I get the idea Lee was looking for something because if he chose to move his army instead of continuing the fight at Gettysburg. He wanted to move around the union right...

Default Jenkins at Gettysburg

http://www.wvculture.org/HISTORY/jou...vh/wvh8-1.html

The Civil War Record of Albert Gallatin Jenkins, C. S. A.

By Flora Smith Johnson
On June 27, his cavalrymen were at Carlisle; and before the concentration at Gettysburg, they had reached Harrisburg, where Jenkins had made a reconnaissance of defenses with a view to an attack by Rodes.

Jenkins was wounded on July 2 in the battle of Gettysburg[note:hit by artillery fire while observing on Ewell's left]. His brigade was taken by Colonel M. J. Ferguson.
