Also, what is going to happen to the old building? Are they going to tear it down and preserve the land back to it's original appearance?

Default Pa Monument

Whew! yeah I think I was browsing and got some old info. Thanks. Your guess is as good as mine as to what they are going to do with the old visitors center. When I was wandering the town one of the employees of the Horse Soldier said they were looking for a buyer.

I know the parks projected scheme is to bring the whole battlefield to its July 1863 appearance, along with trimming some woodlands, and refurbing cannon. Its great to see some money loosen up for such an important site, but when your run from the same department that services Mount Rushmore, Yellowstone, all the way to Valley Forge you kind of pick your battles.

Gettysburg has been getting a much needed facelift in spite of it (Thanks Private Sector ie Gettysburg Anniversary Committee), new trees for the peach orchard, fences, monument cleaning. If we did enough benefit reenactments, G-burg would be state of the art (laugh).

Yeah when I was there in March there were a bunch of cannon missing so that must be what's happening. There were also many new fences going up. It looks great and I'm glad this is being done. If only all civil war battlefields got this treatment...

Default just got back

The Center is beautiful but it is a museum of the Civil War not the Battle of Gettysburg. I enjoyed the old Center with it's eyeballed relics picked right off the field..... the NPS has missed the mark on this one.

Default 2 times already.

My first impression was good. Then the second time I thought it was good. It does tell about the causes, and shows a good film about that. That film is a little expensive but I guess they need to make money to maintain the business. The cafeteria is more of a quick food place which most folks like. Over all, I enjoyed it. Sorry it didn't work out for you.
