Default New pics of the Triangular Field area

Hello,

My first post! Hello everyone.

I found this group while doing some research. Sorry if this is a re-hash, but after many visits to Gettysburg over the years I decided to go check out the Triangular Field for the first time Saturday.

So, I did some research to get an idea where it was and...if it wasn't for the gate, I wouldn't have guessed I was there. Amazing tree clearing underway..in Devil's Den as well. It changes the entire feel of the area.

I posted some pics at the following link:

Let me know if it won't open.

Well, I look forward to taking part with the group. There's a great deal of info here. Keep up the good work.

Excellant photographs!! I have always been interested in the Civil War, but know just enough to be dangerous.
What exactly happened at the Triangular Field? By the way, welcome. Looking forward for more of your post and photographs.

I was in Gettysburg last November and I too was dumbfounded. The tree clearing really makes a difference in interpreting that area of the field. You can get a better feel for Hood's attack and just how close the Devils Den and the Wheat Field are. If you have not seen it since the trees have been removed you need to make a trip (as if you really need an excuse to go).

Hi, thanks.

Nope, he had just arrived for an event with a group of 2nd South Carolina folks, and I imposed on him for a picture.

That's an excellent point. Standing at the base of the hill and facing Devil's Den two things came to mind--that assaulting up that hill was much more daunting than I realised, and that you can see how the Union guns were unable to fire at such a downward angle.

Before the tree clearing it appeared Hood's troops were under cover until the last moment.

Very different perspective.
