Default Obscure Fact

Does anyone on this site know that Longstreet tried to obscure his movement on July 2nd, causing a delay, because he knew the Army of the Potomac would have signal corps with telescopes watching for any movement against Cemetery Ridge?
You know about telescopes in the Civil War?

Or at least, binoculars!

This on the Signal Corps: http://www.army.mil/cmh/books/30-17/S_1.htm

This on the Signal Corps observation and Longstreet's countermarch: http://scard.buffnet.net/gburgsignals/stop02.html

Here's one about the optical tools of the Signal Corps, you might like to go back to the home page http://www.civilwarsignal.org/signal...signalkit.html of this site:

Thanks for the link, Sam. It was a good read and dispelled quite a bit of confusion about this 'n that. Forgot about the signallers being the reasons for the countermarch.
