Default Gettysburg the Tourist Attraction

Could the average American get a good picture of the Battle of Gettysburg, after the battlefield was established as a park and tourist attraction?

Historians play down the importance of AoP artillery? Was Pickett's Charge a "fair fight" ? Did the Confederates really have a chance after the AoP got most of its corps to Gettysburg?

If it was shoes, where was the huge shoe factory? Is that site a tourist attraction?

Do we still get too much carnival barker and not enough cogent military data?

I can see some 19th century barker yelling, "high water mark of the Confederacy."
What a wonderful place to talk of water!
