Smile Happy New Year - in Gettysburg

As most people know, in New York City they have a long-standing tradition of gathering in Times Square on New Year's Eve to watch the ball drop, signaling the arrival of the New Year.

In recent years, many communities in the south central Pennsylvania region of which Gettysburg is a part have started similar traditions.

In York, the White Rose city, they drop a large mockup of a white rose. Lancaster, the Red Rose city, does the same thing, except their rose is red. Harrisburg, for reasons I've never been able to fathom, drops a strawberry. In Dillsburg, we drop a pickle (now THAT, at least, makes some sense). The list goes on and on.

The question of the day on WGTY, the radio station in Gettysburg - if Gettysburg were to adopt a tradition of dropping an object on New Year's Eve, what would you like to see them drop?

Any ideas?

Default Neat Question

Dan Sickles may be a good idea..but...

My wife suggested a cannonball.

How about a shell which would explosively bang in the New Year. (Kaboom!)

Anyone else.........?

VS..etc
