Well posted. It is important to remember that there were names and lives behind the numbers of casualties.

When you see all the names written down like that you start thinking about all their families back home that wont see them anymore.

The amazing thing about the 26th is the beating they took on the first day of battle when they were up against the Union Iron (I-Run) Brigade and despite their heavy casualties, they went in again on the 3rd day. What courage!

Default Yes...

...it was incredible that the 26th NC were called on again on that 3rd day.

Let us also remember that the rest of Pettigrew's, Archer's (under Fry) ,Davis' and the other commands that suffered heavily on July 1st were also called out July 3rd.

I believe only Davis' 11th Mississippi had more casulties than the 26th. And the 11th was NOT engaged on the 1st day!

VS..etc

I don't want to trivialize the actions of the 26th NC or any of its members, but I couldn't help noticing that one of the wounded privates was named Zero Black.

Here is evidence that an American soldier actually bore the name of Zero before Mort Walker ever thought about what names to give to Beetle Bailey and his buddies.

Default 11th Mississippi

11th Mississippi Infantry: 102 Killed/Mortally Wounded :102 Wounded: 168 Missing: 42 Total:312

26th North Carolina:K/MW:...well I'll just go to the Total:687

11th NC Total: 366

My mistake..the 26th had the most and the two 11ths were # 2 and 3.

Still the Mississippi boys had all of theirs on the 3rd day.

VS...etc
