I visited Gettysburg last July for the first time. I was blessed with the oppertunity to walk across the same ground the men of the North and South traversed. Looking at the sites from everywhere on the battlefield I would get tears welling up in my eyes thinkingabout the great sacrafice these men that hot July. As far as a favorite spot..... there aint a inch that aint mine................

Well, it looks like we'll spend about four hours at Gettysburg on June 29th, probably 10 to 2 or so. Yeah, I know it isn't much, but it's better than nothing! Then I'm hoping to stop by Cold Harbor later that day on our way to Williamsburg.

While there is scarce little of the entire place that doesn't raise the hair on my neck just by thinking about what happened there, there is one spot that never fails to bring me to tears. On the long walk through the last assault field, towards the trees up ahead, I take the journey at a much slower pace then did those brave men on that terrible day. With each swale and rise, I try to imagine the enormity of it all and the vision of all of those men and guns directly to the front and off the flanks. I can't help but think that there is no way that I could have gone on in the face of it all, and there has never been a time when I have made it more than half way to the road without tears flowing down my cheeks. It is a place where the true weight, sacrifice and honor of those men can be felt so greatly as to move the hearts of those from generations far distant.
I just took my first trip to Gettysburg a few weeks ago. The whole battlefield was astonishing, especially when I first stood on Cemetary Ridge and looked out over Seminary Ridge. After reading, The Last Full Measure: The Life and Death of the 1st Minnesota Volunteers, I had to see the point from which they charged the Confederate lines. WOW!!! I stood on top of the Pennsylvania Monument and looked out and was amazed by everything that I saw.
I hope to talk with you guys and gals as often as possible.
And we hope to hear from you as well. Welcome.
Ole

It is so hard to pick one area over the other.I can't but help get a lump in my throat when I went to spangler spring and Culp's Hill.Cemetery Hill was especially important to me because the 119th fought there with the 26th Wisconsin and rescued a NY battery from confederate forces.
