media in the Civil War

Would anybody know the differences between the Northern and Southern newspapers?

Like in mass media class, we were discussing the American civil war: the influences of the newspapers and the reporters for the newspapers of either side. Were there certain biases? Were they professional about it? I don't, I just thought about it one day.

I posted this question on another forum. So if you think you may have seen this before, you're not crazy.

It would be very difficult to come to an agreement on which papers were better or worse. With few exceptions, they all were interested in the shocking and inflammatory. (Then, as now, it sold newspapers.)

One major difference: Today, we expect at the very least, that the media is not making stuff up.
