I thought I would share Jeff Shaara's E-mail response after writing to him.
I deeply appreciate your compliments, and your heartfelt wishes.
Unfortunately, there is no "delay" in producing the third film in the trilogy.
I would do it tomorrow if I had the means. Ted Turner has retired completely
from the movie business, and, since he lost so much money on Gods and Generals,
he has no interest in making such an investment again. It cost $60 million to
produce Gods and Generals- and it's not easy finding someone in Hollywood who
sees the value of continuing that story. A considerable amount of effort has
gone into financing the third film, but without success. I continue to believe
that one day it will happen- just no time soon.
Thank you again!

Now, the question -- Who and how can we find some corporate funding from? US ARMY? Ford Foundation?
Any Ideas?
You don't need a lot of people. You need a few reenactors, a few actors and a lot of CGI. I saw one clip where three guys did D-Day and by the time they were finished, it looked like a cast of thousands.
Maybe under another director, but Maxwell is a major hack. G&G was one of the worst movies I have ever seen, and it's mostly because of his overbearing and incompetent direction.

Too much money for such a small market. And if it was a small budget movie, most "Civil War Enthusiasts" would probably complain about its accuracy.
Your statement is true... but think Spartan 300. I call that type of movie stylized history and it may make a true historians sick. But, it does bring history to the masses and make a few people pick up a book a learn the more correct version.
I think the same can be done for the Civil War!!
There are numerous heroic stories involving the Civil War which to base a movie on in the Spartan 300 movie model or style.
I'm being thoughty....
