Thanks Neil. I went to that site and went through the battles. In my own research, some incidents around Island No. 10 is mentioned and Belmont is only briefly in a footnote. A lot of the other "battles" were never examined.

Thanks. I've seen it. That site is a work in progress. I've been aware of the animations for quite some time. They are actually more improved. It's getting better.

Missouri was the powder keg. It started here in the '50's for sure. Bleeding Kansas / MO-KAN Borderwar.

Can you say "Robert E. Who?"

In the NC school system in the 1950s they told us Gen. Lee fought the war. Boy, did they leave out a bunch of stuff!

Yeah, Larry. The Public Schools do US a disservice.

I respect teachers. I really do. They care. They work hard. They put up with crap from everyone. The kids dump on 'em, their fellow teachers dump on 'em, the administrators and the parents dump on 'em. The Government jerks 'em around and forces 'em to implement insane policies.

I don't know why anybody'd put up with all that crap. I certainly wouldn't do it. I didn't do it. I won't do it.

I don't blame the teachers, but the Puclic Schools are a joke. Especially when it comes to teaching US and American Civil War history.

OzarkIronJohn,

I wonder if you were aware of this site and the short history it provided.

A Brief History of the 1864 Price Campaign

http://www.standofcolors.com/history.asp

I found it interesting that there were those in the South who still entertained the idea that a military campaign could help defeat Lincoln at the polls in 1864.

Sincerely,
Unionblue

As it gets later and later into 1864 its really the only thing the Confederates can hope for. Unless I am mistaken, McClellan was thought to be winning for some time.

This is my point too. If Lee had stayed pat after Chancelorsville .... No more Gettysburg, No Gettysburg Address. If Longstreet had gone west to releive Vicksburg, No more US Grant.

Little Mac would be president and we'd all be speakin' a might differently today.

But Jeff Davis and Robert E. Lee were doing their duty. They we carrying the colors. Pressing the issue. Invading Pennsylvania. What's that about? Why the heck was that such a good stategy? We see how it worked out for 'em. I'd say they made a terrible blunder, 'cept that's what they had too do. Duty, Honor, Country. In that order folks. Let's not forget it.
