Can I just throw in the name of Scott. His anaconda plan was followed pretty much for the whole war.

You certainly may! He saw right away what others came to see a bit later. I often wonder how that whole shebang would have turned out if he had even a part of his former vigor. Was he dated? Or was he the wise old man?

And lets not forget that a large number of officers on both sides had served under Scott in the war with Mexico. How many Civil War generals were influenced in their careers by Scott?

Default Remarkable feat!

Gen. Scott is underappreciated by history. His campaign in Mexico was truly remarkable and is ignore by historians for political correctness.

Manifest Destiny is not a good reason for war.

Two great Scotts, Wendell and Randolph. I agree the general was the real thing, one of America's great soldiers.

Just checking to see if you read this stuff. Wendell Scott, once portrayed in a movie by Richard Pryor, was somewhat of a standout on the early auto-racing circuit. He was his own mechanic and is said to have placed a paper bag full of sandwiches on his car seat in case he got hungry during the race. In early racing circles, Wendell stood out in the crowd, so to speak. Wendell wouldn't be confused with Winfield, even by me.

Thanks for the clarification. Saw the movie. Just didn't make the connection. Lemme see. Beau Bridges was in that one, wasn't he?

Next question, were all the early NASCAR drivers running booze?

I'm too young to know much about the early stock car drivers, same as the Civil War. I've heard stories about a few of them hauling a little recipe from time to time and town to town. Some of it was consumed at home.
