It was an observation that many, many individuals in my area who display the CBF do it without an understanding of the history behind it. And what it means to people who do understand it.

In other words it's my belief that the CBF should not be used as curtain for the front window of a double wide.

I don't think it ought to be on license plates and dew rags and skull tattoos or a whole host of other BS pieces of Made in China junk.

..... and what's with all these flags with doberman's and pit bulls busitin' out? or with "Redneck" or "Dixie" stenciled across 'em?

NONE of that crap honors the CBF or the men who fought beneath it.

Thanks John. Now I want to gouge my eyes out.

I think all the pitbulls, flames, Rebel and Dixie stems from the fact that these people don't see the CBF as a symbol in a historical context.

You'll never hear them refer to it as a Confederate Battle Flag. It's a Rebel Flag no context. They fly it, wear it, display it because they are self styled Rebels (without a clue).

That wasn't defense on my part, but merely a chance to speak to those you discuss on the chance they might start to think? The mission of the SCV and SUVCW is to educate and honor the heritage and memory of proud and loyal soldiers. You are quite correct, we don't wave it without reason and reverence.

Ozark, I couldn't resist a chance to display this again. Here you may have one of the exceptions to all the rules and stated lofty guidelines. These must be Missouri girls? Our Tennessee ladies are more refined.

Default Sad history!

I know I should not join this debate but I must for my senses of right and wrong are jiggling.

First, the stars and bars is one of the base design flags of all time for it is eye catching and is unique, but sadly is has a sad history.

What you should be angry about is that this flag has been Hi-jack by truly ugly political groups now and over the years.

You should be angry at the KKK and other white supremacy groups for hi-jacking the stars and bars and using it as their symbol.

You should angry at the segregationist of the last hundred years for Hi-jacking the stars and bars and using it as their symbol.

This is what should make your blood boil is when you see them carrying the CBF out in front of their rallies. This flag was not meant for them to steal.

I feel using that flag or our nation flag as clothing, furniture or what other creative use is honoring it not degrading it.

I personally think the CBF should not be display at government buildings or memorials, or on state flags. It should only it display at confederate memorials, monuments and grave sights.

In it's sad history it was our adversaries flag and should not be given a place of honor within our government.

And if all of them would stick to honor and educate I'd have no problem at all. It's the imaginative use of "educate" that I have a problem with.

The cross was the symbol of the KKK from its inception.

The United States flag was used from the early 1900s.

The Confederate flag has been used by KKK, segregationists, etc since the 1950s.

Recap:
KKK Symbols
Cross.........140 years
US Flag......100+ years
CS Flag........50+ years

You have now made amends for the first post, John, which was a real war crime against southern civilians. Unless, of course, it was a relative of yours, for which you should apolologize for posting her unflattering photo.
