Default Confederate National Anthem

Did the Confederacy have an official national anthem? Dixie is usually considered the Confederate anthem but The Bonnie Blue Flag must also be a contender.

Blockaderunner,

Did the Confederate government have time to vote on a national anthem? I don't even think they barely had enough time to get past deciding on a flag before other things were on their legislative plates.

Sincerely,
Col. Woods

The answer is ............ no. Both tunes were rather popular nationwide with Dixie having several sets of lyrics, both Union and Confederate. Ms. Fanny Crosby was hired to write some lyrics, more came from a Union general, plus hundreds that have since been concocted. It was all the Confederacy could do (probably more) to acquire equipment and bullets.

No, but Dixie and Bonnie Blue Flag were considered very patriotic airs for the Confederacy. We know "Here's Your Mule" or "Goober Peas" both won't make it.

I hate the song "goober peas".

My most favorite is "pick obale of cotton" and "little lila jane"

If I mispelled anything, let me know.I've been looking for the lyrics for "lila jane", anyone have it?

I recently watched the movie 'Glory'. One scene shows the 54th in camp with musicians playing The Bonnie Blue Flag. Is this an error on the part of the film makers or was the song popular in the north. Presumably with different lyrics.

Don't recall the song being played or, if it was, didn't notice. Unlike "Dixie," it makes an excellent marching song.

Or as the old bluegrass song sung by "Stringbean" little Liza Jane. Thought I stringbean saved but here's nashville grass

Is this the song you mean?

OnEdit:

Sorry this is no singing...I have dial up and had to wait a bit for it to load. I'll keep looking though. Here's one set of lyrics....

I got a girl in Arkansas, little Liza Jane,
She sleeps in her kitchen with her feet in the hall, little Liza Jane.
CHORUS:
Oh! Won't you... Oh! Eliza, little Liza Jane,
Oh! Won't you... Oh! Eliza, little Liza Jane.
I'm gonna marry her if I can...
She loves me 'cause I'm a union man...
Heard a speech by the President...
Wants to put me in a regiment...

I went to the draft and stood in line...
Now I'm a number 609...

Said in Congress yesterday...
"Take the right to strike away..."

They say that labor camps are fine...
To make the young folk toe the line...

I can't marry you today...
I can't afford it on my pay...

Cut the pay and raise the rents...
It's all for national defense...

Better make the government change its plan...
I aim to be a married man...

Dry your tears, get out your knittin'...
I don't aim to be no bundle for Britain...
