Default Good stuff from North and South Mag.

The latest edition of North and South Magazine Vol 9, Number 7 has two interesting articles, both on the motivations of average soldiers.

One was on the German American community, a study of a collection of war time letters, originally in German, showing a range of motivations, from indifference to high minded idealism. Interesting thoughts on the effect of the soldiers' religion(protestant, catholic, "freethinkers, and their social class on their beliefs.

The other on about the "Bourne Collection" a New York hospital clergyman collected autographs and thoughts from many of the horribly injured men, many missing one or more limbs. They remain surprisingly cheerful and committed to the Union cause.
