Default Stetson cavalry hats

Stetson cavalry hats were apparently not all identical. For example some have large crossed sabres on the front of them and some have small crossed sabres.

Also, they have different combinations of colors on the cords that wrap around the hat.

What is designated by these differences?

Thanks,

Dana Parker

Two vendors who offer quality products...
Crossed cannon arty, crossed sabres cav & crossed rifles Post war infantry, hunters horn for CW or earlier Infantry.

Different color cords = Yellow for Cav, Blue for infantry and Red for arty. As to the difference sizes of crossed sabres... dump the brass altogether as it is overrated.

Kind of brings to mind a period saying: You can judge a man by the color of his piping, Infantry Blue for a good blue blooded american boy and the arty wears Red like any good red blooded american... well we all know what color the Cav wears.
