Default Great Names for Soldiers

Pichegru Woolfolk - great name for a Reb.

He was Captain of the Ashland Artillery from it's organization in August 1861 through the end of the War.

Either that or he became the roughest, toughest kid in the schoolyard.

Well, let's not us just pick on Pichegru.

You all read lots of stuff about the War, so whenever you come across a unique or highly peculiar name, please add it to this post with a little bit about that person if possible.

I considered adding Andrew Hickenlooper, but thought his first name so ordinary that he might not qualify. What do you think?

Andrew Hickenlooper was a brevet brigadier general in the Union Army. He began as a civil engineer. Because of his military engineering genius, Hickenlooper was a hero at Vicksburg (1862-63), where he earned a gold medal for constructing a bridge from cotton bales.

Knock yourselves out!

Can't forget Galusha Pennypacker! His name sounds like something out of Dickens.

Default Great Names for Soldiers

There was States Rights Gist a Gen. from S.C. and of course, Gen. Alex Schmmelfenning, in Howards Corps in the AoP.

There is a humorous trivia-bit myth on Schimmelpfennig: when Lincoln was cleaning house, in General, (pun intended) he kept Schimmelpfinnig because he was amused by the name.

There was a James T. Kirk and a David Birney.

What's interesting about "David Birney"?

(Pardon my ignorance of popular culture.)
