A couple of recent things folks might be interested in.

Over at "War Historian" Mark Grimsley has very interesting posts about:

a. Ben Butler, US Grant and the 1864 strategy for Butler to divert resources from Lee, while Grant moved South. Refreshing new slant.

b. The writings of the Comte de Paris, heir to the French throne and staff officer for Gen. McClellan. Unflattering portrait of Seward, who comes across like a mild Robespierre. Interesting picture of New York gearing up to fight the war.

At "Civil War Bookshelf" Rostov has a series on how McClellan's corps commanders got their jobs, in his view, a mix of prewar personal contacts with Lincoln adminstration officials, and vigorous lobbying, and luck. I'm taking it with a grain of salt, but worth a look.
