W. T. Sherman was a man of many snappy quotes. One of my favorites is "Grant stood by me when I was crazy, and I stood by him when he was drunk, and now we stand by each other". No wonder these two men had a good working relationship

Love him or hate him, you've got to admire his unrestrained outspokenness on matters political and/or military.
