I agree with your position. Sherman had his duty, and both he and Lincoln knew what was required to win the war. The same Southern partisans who talk so much about duty should understand that. Sherman knew what he had to do, and he did it. Also, as far as I know Sherman did not kill any civilians, he simply destroyed property. When southerners refer to Sherman as a war criminal, I believe they should keep that in mind.

Also, I'm inclined to believe that Sherman was as good a general as Jackson or any others.

Slick Willie Tecumseh Sherman was a good general but a p poor politician and pr man.

Unfortunately Jackson left the playing field in the second quarter. Had he remained it wouldn't have been a contest. Sherman simply won the last battle.

Jackson - 1527 casualties as of 5/63

It was a rhetorical question. 1527 sounds a bit low for Jackson's style, but I'll take your word for it.
