Beardless Grant? (Not the young ones) I was reading Hamlin Garlan's Ulysses S. Grant His Life and Character (1898)
In which he says thats Mrs. Grant one day told Ulysses that she wished she had a profile of her husband, that all the photos were straight on.
""Ulysses I want a profile of you."
"Oh, haven't I had pictures enough taken?" he relied.
"No," replied Mrs. Grant;" "you have n't a single profile view, and I want one."
A day or two later to see the President ... wearing English mutton-chop whiskers .... His mustache was shaved away clean, and his chin completely exposed.
Thus there it happens that there is at least one picture of General Grant in existence which shows the rugged line of his profile face."
Any body know of this photo?
