Default Blue pills

OK, we read how the surgeons would pass out blue pills. What was in these devilish things?

Blue mass was a mercury pill. It could be mercury and chalk, or mercury and licorice root, rosewater, honey, sugar and rose petals.

Mercury was good for what ailed you back then.
