I have a sole of a shoe that was dug up in the Wilderness, that I purchased in Sharpsburg,MD. I have no idea if it's from a Johnny or a Billy, or a hunter chasing a squirrel. I have a set of bullets of different calibers used during the war, but don't know if they are battlefield dug, or original. They look original but who knows. I have a small mason jar full of water from Antietam Creek, labeled as such, that I scooped up from the creek in June of 2001. I doubt seriously that this water was there on 9/17/62, but still like to look at it. Hardly any of it has evaporated.
If you can send me some photos of the bullets I can identify them for you. Send them to tomh@baymediapro.com.
I collect bullets, cartridges and firearms. Most of my bullet/cartridge collection can be viewed online at www.baymediapro.com/collection. On that same site are a few Belgian boot pistols and Allens and partners pistols (all pre-war but popular among the troops as backup weapons).
I also have a small but growing collection of Springfield and contract Model 61's and 63's and martial pistols.
Tom, thanks but I bought them in a set of 21 in Sharpsburg, and they're all id'd as far as caliber and weapon used to fire them. The only thing I have wondered is if they are actually from the war, since you can easily buy them new and dirty them up some. Don't know if you'd be able to help with the authenticity part or not. I would be glad to ship them to you to look at if you want.
I own a roster of Co 10, Ohio Independent Sharpshooters (a part of 60th Ohio) listing my Union ancestor Arnuah Norton, who died at Salisbury NC Prison. I also own five Minie balls and a Confederate $10 note.
Always looking for more, but the pickings are slim in Texas.
