My wife is related to
Gen. James Taylor. James and Keturah (Leitch) Taylor lived in a log cabin that overlooked the Ohio River on what today is Third Street in Newport's (KY) Mansion Hill neighborhood. That building was replaced about 1812 with larger one designed by H. B. Latrobe. Latrobe was the same architect who designed the Capitol Building in Washington D. C. Here is a picture of their home in Newport, a lawyer's office as of the summer of 2004, but apparently sold to a history buff recently.
If you want to see several pictures I took of the home, several inside then visit
this link.
The home was apparently a stop on the
underground railroad. Anyone know more about this?
I'm especially interested in learning more about a
Frances Jane (Wallace) Taylor (b. 1782) who was a daughter of
Captain Edmund Taylor. I have the basic life dates and geneaological data. I'd like more definitive information on her life. I know the chances are slim I might find anything out there but maybe I'll get lucky. John and Frances Jane Wallace had over 100 grand children, and over 40 of them served in the Civil War, almost all from southeastern Indiana; fourteen alone in the
58th Indiana.
Thanks ahead of time for any light anyone can shed on the Taylor mansion in Newport (KY), Frances Jane (Wallace) Taylor, or even Captain Edmund Taylor (who had about ten sons who served in the Revolutionary War.
