This month marked the 139th anniversary of Quantrill’s raid on Lawrence Kansas. Yankee history regards this raid as sneak attack on innocent civilians by an outlaw band of murderous bushwhackers. After all, the winners get to write the history.

I respectfully submit that the attack was justified, upon a target of military value. The Partisan rangers involved in the attack conducted themselves within the rules, which had been set by the Federal Authorities in the region. In other words LAWRENCE HAD IT COMING!

Anybody want to argue with me.

Doug

No, I don't want to argue. Don't know anything about this. I see you are new to this board. Way to start the posting.

I'm not looking for an agruement.

Though the emphasis for Quantrill Attack on Lawrence to a pro-southern mode could be considered justified and by all means what Union Forces did in many areas of Southwestern Missouri would be also considered barbaric and if judged by today's standards to be criminal. Nonetheless what Quantrill and his men did to innocent men and male adolescents in Lawrence, Kansas was simply murder.

Under all circumstances to say the civilian population of Lawrence, Kansas had it coming is by all means extreme and Quantrill's activities in Kansas are as just as criminal as those policing Missouri, if not more so. You are certainly right about the victors writing the history: however, we must always look at things with fairness and objectivity.
