i'm looking for any information concerning this, the largest amphibious assault of u. s. forces on an enemy prior to d day. thru deligent digging and searching, i have slowly started finding some info on this. but, am still missing some things. i recently went to the library of congress requesting col. manning forces eyewitness account to this assault. what i have, ends just as union forces are entering bruinsburg. at this point, i hit a brick wall. do any of you have any info on this, the final push on vicksburg ? any info is very much appreciated.

Danny:

If you can gain access to a copy of Ninety-Eight Days by Warren Grabau, it is an excellent account of the entire campaign from the gathering across the river, through the crossing, and the campaigns that continue through the fall of Vicksburg. Grabau is a map-man and includes a generous supply of them, as well as a detailed narrative of the action from both sides.

The Vicksburg Campaign by Bearss, has quite a number of pages listed on Bruinsburg, and the Bruinsburg road. Its a 3 vol. set and only has an index in Vol 3, but..if you can't find the set, but can get your lib. to get Vol 2, I can send you the pages referenced.
Another thing to try, is simply put "Bruinsburg,Miss." into google and see what you come up with, might be something useful.
Something else, head for the Vicksburg homepage. There is a link for you to send in questions. Maybe they can help, possibly even recommend other books than these last 2 mentioned. You might even luck out and get Terry Winschel, (writer of Vicksburg is the Key: The Struggle for the Mississippi River, and Triumph & Defeat: The Vicksburg Campaign) helping you. Terry also in a moderator on a Yahoo Vicksburg Civil War group, if your already a member of Yahoo. If you can post there you might get some help from Terry, and others
