My dad recently told me he was watching a rerun of an interview with Jeff Shaara on CSPAN. He said he thought he heard him mention something about John Buford fighting under a commander named Stillman in the cavalry during an Indian war, or something to that effect. He said he might have been hearing things, but he asked me to check it out for him.

If this is true, it would be of great interest to me. Stillman was a commander who had much to do with the history of my area, and any information that might be provided is welcome. Thanks.

Aimee,
This is all I could find in a hasty search on Buford's pre-war assignments. Which Stillman are you referring to?

The man who I am thinking of is Isaiah Stillman. But it is entirely possible that it could have been another commander that my dad heard about who had the same surname.

Thanks for the information, Aphillbilly. I'll look at it as soon as I'm done posting.
