I had an intriguing discussion today and was asked how Cleburne and Lee measured when compared to one another. It was an interesting question that leads to some interesting comparisons. Cleburne brought out a loyalty unequaled among his men, he was arguebly the best tactical mind in the Western Armies of the CSA etc... there are more similarities between Lee and Cleburne, I think, than their are differences.

My own knowledge of the two men is a far cry from Legion, I would appreciate any thoughts on the matter.

I don't have a large amount of information on Cleburne but he did have a strong popularity with his troops. The same was true of Lee. Lee had such a strong loyalty among his troops, that I think he could actually march through the pits of Hades, and his troops would gladly follow. I have my doubts if Cleburne's would follow him that far. The loyalty to Lee was earned from his never ending concern for his soldiers. On a number of occasions, he donated socks that were sent to him, to soldiers that were in need. I haven't read where Cleburne had this type of concern, but as I mentioned I don't have much more than just the general type information on Cleburne. It will be interesting if others that have more info. will pick up on this thread.
