I was wondering if General Lee had ever agreed to an interview with Newspapers such as The new York Times or even regional papers. Does anyone know? Thanks.

Frank,

According to Emory M. Thomas's "Robert E. Lee", he gave an interview to Thomas M. Cook of the New York Herald in Richmond in the immediate aftermath of Appomattox.

If there's anything in print I would love to read it, if anyone knows that it's available let me know.

In a book written by Lee's son, he states that his dad wouldn't even talk about the war. He does state that his dad was trying to compile information to write a book, due to all the false things that were being written concerning the war, but due to his failing health he didn't accomplish it.
