Speaking of Lee's surrender. Anyone know of an on-line source which would list the Appomattox parolees?

I really don't know, but anyone with the Guild Press "Southern Historical Society Papers" have the Appomattox Roster included.
If you send the names you need, units and the brigade would help, I'll conduct a search.
There are supposed to be 26,300 listed, officers and soldiers, and also include a list of paroled men that Were Not with the AoNV at Appomattoxl

Default Logistically,

Lee was running on "fumes" when he retreated from Petersburg.
Logically, Lee had no chance. His army was depleted to the bone. It was unfit for heavy battle. Courage it had; but Lee should have ended the war at Petersburg, and save more lives than he did.

With the destruction of Richmond, the supply center, Lee couldn't maintain even a 20,000 man army.

General Lee nearly fought to the last dead Confederate in the Army of Virginia. By the time of Appomattox, the Army of Northern Virginia was an army in name only.

What didn't die in battle died of attrition.

Dear Ole,

None of my relatives were in the Civil War.

They were still overseas during those times.

Perhaps, this is why I have the luxury of not taking any particular side. I am just an American. However, I feel like I'm half 'n half.

Just some thoughts.

Respectfully submitted,
M. E. Wolf

My great grandfathers record shows he was paroled in Ashland, VA, so I would assume he was not with the ANV at that point.
