Civil War History - The Eastern TheaterDiscuss any and all battles, movements, and events occuring in the Eastern Theater here! This includes any actions in tha area east of the Appalachian Mountains in the vicinity of the river capitals of Richmond and Washington D.C.
What was the name of the ship that the U.S. Navy packed with powder and was sent to try to blow up Fort Fisher? The only thing they did was make a lound bang and kill a lot of fish.
The main reason I opted for the Army instead of the Navy was because I knew I could always walk or run in or out of trouble.
I also didn't think I would be able to swim thousands of miles to land or have a reasonable conversation with a shark not to eat me.
Sincerely,
Unionblue

I don't even walk on dry land to carry letters anymore for the Postal Service!
I have further refined my theory concerning not serving in the Navy by finding a way not to be confronted by mad dogs, angry customers who are waiting on their welfare checks, bad neighborhoods and little old ladies who want to talk you to death.
I TRAIN new letter carriers for the Postal Service.
My new outlook is, "Those who WON'T, teach."

Neil,
My younger brother is a letter carrier, and boy does he have stories to tell!! However, he is one of the few people you meet in life who truly, truly loves his job. He fully intends to be a lifer.
Regards,
John W.

All the good letter carriers love their job and think it is the best one to have in the post office. I'm glad your brother loves his job and intends to make it his career, because its a good one.
As for me, that 'neither rain, nor snow, nor gloom of night' stuff just wasn't for me, especially after Uncle Sam had me out in all that crap carrying a very heavy pack and a rifle.
From now on, it's a desk with a computer monitor and a very comfortable chair.
Sincerely,
Unionblue
