I suppose that popular culture will never really have an accurate view of history or its heroes and villains. Most folks just don't care really. But there will always be the more serious group of students of history and I think the more "academic" (not sure of a better word) set does a good job of analyzing historical figures. For our purposes I mean Gallagher, Krick, etc. But the sort of "pop" historians are the ones most people read and who have the rather questionable analysis. Someone like Howard Zinn comes to mind.
