Simple arithmetic has always been a major obstacle for me (unless I'm figuring batting averages or earned run averages), but given that Henry Ford began mass producing reasonably priced cars around 1901, I figure the average Civil War vet must have been around 55-60 years old if he was contemplating buying a newfangled horseless carriage. So I figure the horse and buggy must have still looked pretty good to him by that point in his life. Hey, I'm 57 and I hate change. I reckon the CW vet probably hated change, too. Although, I would guess, that he'd still be awed by the technology.
Hey, the Wright Brothers were flying airplanes two years later. |
