Campfire Chat - General DiscussionsThis is a forum for posting discussion topics, questions, current events, and anything else you'd like to chat about. Please post serious Civil War History threads in appropriate History Forums.
This is my first post and I just wanted to say hello. I am from Alabama and I have several ancestors that fought in the WBTS. Units like:16th, 42nd Alabama Infantry, 24th Mississippi Infantry and the 56th Georgia Infantry. My favorite general of the war is Patrick Cleburne and yes that is above Lee. All of my ancestors were in the AoT, none in ANV. So most of my studies have been focused on units and generals from AoT. The first two units that I listed are my favorites.

Please know, there is a naughty word software on the forums, that sometimes catches innocent words like Genneral Cu-mmings name up or; fu-rther gets caught. When you hit the send button you see **** where the naughty word 'is' per se. If it is innocent; you have to hit your edit button on your own post and cleverly use hyphens or creative spelling.
I have begun to highlight the clever respelling of innocent names in a color, like green--so people don't think I've lost my dictionary. LOL
The moderators do not have any control over such function so, before any trouble, I like pre-warning new folks, so they don't think we're pick'n on them.
There are many ages on here. Very young to very old (I'm so old my bags have their own baggage)
Please go at your own pace and enjoy the forums. There are an awful lot of experts of all kinds of varieties. Archive topics may hold clues to what you are actively seeking. If not, create a new topic; that could go in General Discussions which are Civil War Related or in the Battle Theater of interest.
The more references you give, for independent reading--the better; on topics that may not be immediately known to the readers. I am all for being educated by those who know their topics.
Welcome Ole Pat. Cleburne is my favorite Corn-fed gineral too. I'm inclined to believe that he never rose above division command because of his stance on arming the slaves. He was also one of the best trainers in the AoT.
A city near me here in Texas is name for General Cleburne (in Hood County).
Look forward to having you.

Oh, great! Another Cleburne Fan. You are not alone here, Cleburne. Pull up that log and park yourself by the fire. We're mostly just folks like back home in Alabama. (Some of us, however, have a tail and horns and admire Lincoln.)
Coffee?

Sorry about that, Elennsar. You really need to get on that tail some. It's looking a bit raggedy and not at all respectable. If you're going to be a damyankee, I'll expect that tail to be smart and ready for inspection! Sir! Do you understand, sir!
Cleburne: get the idea? We can swing from giggles to deadly serious in an eye-blink. With a couple of exceptions, myself included, we're mostly quite nice. One thing we do get here is a whole bunch of learning you will not likely find in your library.
Now I must give some grooming to my tail. May I be excused?

Welcome to the board, Cleburne. I'm a dyed-in-the-wool yankee, but I admire and respect the many officers and men who gave their lives for their beloved South, not the least of whom is General Patrick Cleburne, a brave and true Son of Erin. IMO he was the bravest warrior ever to arrive on these shores from the Emerald Isle, and the greatest general to wear Confederate gray. Any info you can share on him would be greatly appreciated. Glad you're here with us.
Respectfully,
Leland
