Default The Emancipation Proclamation

Question:

If SLAVERY was the be-all and end-all of the Civil War, why was not the opportunity to have the Federal government renew their vows to Slavery as an institution acceptable to the South???

If reunification would give the South that, as well as the honor of having Lincoln "recognize" them, as people once again, why not agree to this?

And where did I hear that the South offered to give up slavery voluntarily if Lincoln would just go away and leave the South at peace?

Is this just a legend?

Tory
