Default Boo!

June 6th, we get nary a mention of D-Day here?

I'm booing my fellow board members today...I am booing myself too (I actually had forgotten, I am ashamed of myself)

The Memorial is in Virginia, in a town with Confederate monuments and the 1st Battalion 116th Infantry Company A, whose sign reads, basically, Afghanistan 2004, Omaha Beach 1944, and a pictoral reference to the Stonewall Brigade, from the Civil War.

It was a target along Hunter's Raid, and a town which was
about 60% destroyed during this time, but also saw Hunter and his 22,000 retreat at full speed... away from Jubal Early and his 8,000 Rebel boys...

The target was Lynchburg and the rail lines, June 19, 1864... Black Dave Hunter was chased out, through Big Lick (Roanoke), Salem, and Hanging Rock...

These boys from Bedford were also the heroes from D-Day... in sight of the Peaks of Otter, where Robert E. Lee and his daughter, Mildred, rode their horses higher on those mountains than anyone had ever been ridden horses before, they reckoned... before he and his daughter stayed with Letitia Burwell and family at Avenel House in October of 1867.

And every Confederate soldier showed up at Avenel to shake his hand in the parlor, before Lee and Mildred rode off to get some apricots for lunch before the ride to Lexington...

Guess you won't get any more response than that...

Suh.

One of the kids at school reminded me this morning before class. "D-Day is 64 years old" he said.

Many apologies, CW! It simply didn't occur to me and, for that, I've committed myself to eating chitlins as punishment. Guess I got too involved in considerably previous history.

Worked with a couple three guys who had been there. One with the Rangers; one with the 101st. And there were others. While we are so totally involved in the USCW, we tend to forget the greatest generation. Ten hut! Salute!

Default No Shows

Actually I was a little surprised I looked over the IO and saw no D-Day related movie. For sure, the Longest Day or Saving Private Ryan should've been on tonight.

The Longest Day was on here in Canada today. I was wondering if they were holding some sort of ceremony commemorating the event in Ottawa yesterday. I assume something must've happened at the War Memorial.

I should clarify...my anniversary is 1981...not 1944!
