    Default A question

    Hiyas,

I've just remembered something. In reading Wert's biography of Longstreet I found a reference to one of Old Pete's staff officers named Peyton Manning from Mississippi. That seems way to conincidental to me. Has anybody heard whether this man was any kin to the Colts Quarterback?

P.S. Sorry if its the wrong forum, but I wasn't sure where this one belonged.

In the South, the Mannings are part of OUR history. I just peeked at the family history of Elisha Archibald Manning II b. 19 My 1949 in Drew, Mississipi, better known as Archie. The Peyton name does not show up in his lineage. The following folks are civil war age eligible for the war. Source: World Connect Project on ancestry.com.

    John C. Manning b: 22 FEB 1828 in SC
Richard Elam Manning b: 10 MAY 1830 in Marion Co., SC
Joseph Manning b: 19 DEC 1831 in SC
David Manning b: 27 JUL 1833 in SC
Ira Manning b: 30 APR 1835 in SC
Moses Manning b: 1 DEC 1837 in SC
Sarah Manning b: 15 APR 1838 in SC
    Mark Manning b: 7 JAN 1841
Elizabeth Manning b: 14 FEB 1843 in SC
Margaret Manning b: 8 OCT 1844 in MS
Woodward Manning b: 15 FEB 1847 in MS
    Mary Manning b: 13 SEP 1849

Richard Elam Manning is Archie's ancestor. These are Richard's siblings. (Not my research.)

Well, then it is doubly coincidental since Peytons(the QB that is) father is named Archie. He won a Heisman and had a long career with the NO Saints.

I like the prophetic part at the end about Elijah Manning and how that "maybe" a story for another Super Bowl. A year later and...
