Alexander Stephans - A Book? Can anyone recommend a good biography of Stephans? The man is an enigma to me. He gets elected and has a hissy fit with Davis. He pretty much goes home and does nary a thing for the rest of the war as I understand it. YET, every Yankee in kingdom come quotes him when they want to prove that the South seceded to preserve slavery.
As far as I know, he practically fell off the planet soon after the inauguration. So should his opinions be weighted so heavily? At any rate, if anyone knows of a good bonafide objective biography of him, I'd be pleased if you'd respond here.
Thanks,
Memphis
