Default Visiting Gettysburg

I'm taking my family to visit Gettysburg this April school vacation. I've recently about some changes to the park(which I haven't visited in 15 years at least). The Cyclorama restoration, the new visitor center, new cuttings, the electric map being dismantled etc.

Anyone have any suggestions about what to visit? Recommendations, observations, things to avoid?

Know nothing for a fact, Matthew, but from what I hear from people who visit frequently is that they heartily approve of what the park has done and is doing.

Suggest that you visit the places you are most familiar with and marvel at the improvements.

we were there a vew weeks ago, the new visitors center was not open yet, and it looked like the cyclorama was in the process of being torn down.

the battlefield looked very different from the last time I was there a few years ago.

They have really been doing a lot of brush and tree clearing to make it look more like it did then.

Also, Mike was thrilled that the PA monument was finally open and you could go upstairs.

Go see the Devils Dean area. With all of the tree removals to make it appear as it did in 1863, you'll be truly amazed. Hood's day two attack will come to life.

Take the option of booking a guide to travel the field in your own car. This is not that expensive, but go to the visitor centre early or they may all be fully booked. You will cover the whole field but the guide will concentrate on any particular area you ask for.

I believe I heard that the last time the Electric Map will be in operation will be this Sunday.

I'm disappointed to see it go. It may have been low-tech, but I thought it really gave a pretty good picture of how the battle came together.

Maybe they will have some more modernistic version at the new Visitors Center, but if so, I haven't heard about it yet.
